How the DNS location check works
-
Find your network exit
The Cloudflare data centers of international websites each return the country of your exit, and the majority sets the exit location.
-
Let probe services record your DNS
The page resolves random subdomains; the probe services record the recursive DNS servers that actually arrive, then look up their location and network provider.
-
Compare with the exit
Each DNS server is compared with the exit by country or region; with a proxy or VPN on, DNS handled elsewhere lets regional services see two locations.

- Same regionThe DNS server is in the same country or region as your exit.

Frequently asked questions
Why should my DNS location match my exit?
Websites and apps use both your IP and your DNS to judge where you are. When a proxy or VPN is on but DNS is still handled by your original network or a server in another region, regional services may see two different locations.
Where should I make changes after mainland DNS is detected?
Check the VPN client, browser Secure DNS, operating system, and router. If a self-hosted VPN supplies DNS settings, check its server configuration as well. Common public DNS services include Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 and Google 8.8.8.8.
Why does the result show another IP after I configure 1.1.1.1?
You configure a public entry address, while Cloudflare may query authoritative DNS from another recursive server. This page shows the recursive exit observed externally, and the network name should still identify Cloudflare.
Why does one provider show several DNS addresses?
Public DNS services usually spread requests across many recursive servers, so separate lookups can be answered by different servers. The list shows each address separately with the probe services that saw it.
