How the Cloudflare check works

  1. Request this site’s trace

This site is served by Cloudflare; its /cdn-cgi/trace returns the data center code, protocol, TLS version and WARP status of your request.

  2. Turn the code into a city

The data center code is an airport code, matched against the data centers on Cloudflare’s status page; a code not listed is shown as is.

  3. List the connection’s properties

The data center is usually the one nearest your network exit; through a VPN or proxy it reflects where the proxy leaves.

Reading the result

  • HTTP/2 / HTTP/3Shows the HTTP protocol your browser actually used.
  • TLS 1.3The recommended encryption version, with a faster handshake.
  • WARPWhether the connection goes through the Cloudflare WARP client.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the data center not in my city?

Requests enter the Cloudflare data center nearest on the network route, which depends on where your provider connects to Cloudflare, not always your own city. Through a VPN or proxy, it follows the proxy exit.

What is the difference between HTTP/2 and HTTP/3?

HTTP/3 runs over QUIC, so a lost packet does not stall the whole connection; it is usually faster on mobile and poor networks. Browsers often use HTTP/2 on the first visit and switch to HTTP/3 later.
